Nighthouse Studio
Nighthouse Studio, initiated in 2006, is a collaboration between video artist Ian Winters and light artist Elaine Buckholtz. Their projects use video and light to transform sites into quiet spaces for contemplation, inducing a perpetual sense of wonder, yet pointing to social and cultural fragmentation, while simultaneously providing a vehicle for public self-reflection, connection, and healing.
Elaine Buckholtz
is a Light Installation Artist operating in the space between installation, architecture and landscape with interests in public revelation, physical and metaphorical transformation, biotechnology, and the technologically sublime. Her work transforms environments and sites into quiet spectacles, inducing a sense of wonder by activating architectural forms and spaces with moving light, sculptural elements and sound.
Elaine has MFAs in Installation Art from California College of The Arts and Stanford University. She is currently a professor at The Massachusetts College of Art and Design in The Studio for Interrelated Media, as well as more than 25 years expertise as a lighting designer for artists such as Meredith Monk and Merce Cunningham. .
Ian Winters
is a media and video artist working across gallery installations, site-specific light and video works, and live performance. His practice is rooted in observation and structure across visual, social, and and technological realms. In addition to installation, gallery and site specific work he works extensively in visual and projection design for stage across opera, dance theater.
He is the co-founder of Heliotrope IA, Limited in the UK. His work has been supported by Hewlett’s Creative Work Fund, the Rainin Family Foundation, Djerassi Resident Artist Program among many others. He studied video and performance at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University, followed by training in dance / physical theater, and architecture.
